About Me
I first learned Pascal in about 1986. I was a young high school student. I was 2–3 years younger than the other kids in the Pascal course. The instructor saw that I had a pretty good talent with programming in BASIC, so he let me join the course early. I also used Pascal for the first year of studies for my Computer Science degree at the University of Michigan.
Fast forward to 2023, I was reminiscing about the technologies I had learned long ago and no longer use. I decided to see whether I remember anything of Pascal, so I'm setting up a simple development environment. I've been using this wiki as a source to help me find tools that work.
Old Tools
Trying to use Pascal, I thought I'd like to work with my favorite IDE, IntelliJ IDEA. I found a plugin for it, I-Pascal, but it was last updated in June 2020. (Over three years at this writing.) I couldn't get it to work properly, even after I installed fpc via Homebrew. Source code is available for it in casteng/i-pascal on GitHub, but it includes little documentation. The README refers to a homepage, but it is broken. I've been able to get some information about the site from archive.org.
